LUELLA

I got to take some maternity pictures for Shawna a month or so before her birth. The plan was just to assist her midwife at her birth. Shawna said I could bring my camera to get some practice if I wanted! This was going to be her 4th birth and 3rd homebirth.

10:30pm the midwife called to say to come. So I packed up my camera and headed out into the night!

When I got there Shawna was in the tub, with fairy lights all around her. Her husband was in the room with her and her 2 year old son. She had a house full of waiting family!

After a little while of laboring in the water she decided to get out onto the bed, and very quickly after Luella was born into her dads hands! Crying right away so we all knew she was fine, she went right up on Shawnas chest. Shawna got to Skype her daughter who was way up north in college almost right away so she could meet her baby sister! Then Baby Luella got to meet her older two brothers and all the grandparents, and great grandparents!

Placenta was out, and mom settled into nursing and getting her toddler to bed. I helped pack up all the midwives gear, emptied the birth tub and packed it up. Then made my way home, thinking of how sweet and beautiful it is when the whole big family gets to be part of a birth story!

I was home just in time to get a few hours sleep before having to get my kids up for school!
