Kesandra’s Birth

You may recognize Kesandra from her beautiful in home session maternity photos i did a little bit ago(check a few blog post back!!) I was planning on taking her birth photos, but we knew that their was a chance i may not make it- their was a chance no one would. Precipitous labor is defined as giving birth less then 3 hours after regular contractions start.

This was her 4th baby, but first home birth and her whole team knew to be very on call, which meant the second she called we should probably drop everything quick and drive fast to get to her house!

Friday afternoon my husband was getting ready to go to work and she called saying her water broke. But said it was ok no contractions had started yet. Thinking i had some time i called her doula Stephanie to ask what she thought, since she had been at all Kesandras other births and knew her really well. Stephanie said she was getting ready now to head out the door, she was on phone and heard her get a contraction and it was time to leave asap!

Birth worker life if fun but requires a really flexible home life because i grabbed my camera and ran out the door yelling to husband he would have to figure out childcare/school pick up and everything else like if he needed to call into work or not! You have to be able to just drop everything in your life and have it able to keep running smoothly- like your kids need to get picked up from school still!

Driving moderately fast(okay faster then I’ve ever gone to a birth before) I got to her house probably 20 minutes before baby was born! Her midwife and friend where already there, and a few minutes later Stephanie her doula arrived! All in time, and the only reason i think we got there was this was by far her biggest baby so he took a few more minutes to come down.

Their was so much joy and laughter at this birth. I have so many pictures of smiling, and laughter it was so special. To think water broke randomly and two hours later she had her baby in her arms. Hours after baby was born I think we were all in shock still, and after a few hours once they got to snuggle their other kids and announce his name, we all slowly left them to have their first night all tucked in their own bed peacefully..

I think the pictures tell the rest of this story better then I can!
