Placenta encapsulation is a process in which, placenta is dehydrated and ground into a fine powder, which is then placed into small capsules that look exactly just like any other vitamin or supplement we might take.

By ingesting these pills, the hormones and vital nutrients lost during birth are replenished, thus making for an easier postpartum recover for the mother.

Tinctures are high grade alcohol with a small chunk of raw placenta in it. The high grade alcohol can increase the length and benefits of your placenta for both mother and child. This is normally used after pills are all gone, as it takes 6 weeks for tincture to be done.

Raw Method-in the raw method the placenta is washed, then sliced and immediately put in the dehydrator. The theory behind the raw method is that drying the placenta at a low temperature maintains the integrity of the nutrients, and that steaming can lose vital nutrients.

Traditional Chinese Method(TCM)-To prepare the placenta for encapsulation using the traditional Chinese method, the doula will first thoroughly wash the placenta, then steam it with a lemon, ginger and chili.

Questions and Answers about the process of encapsulation.

When do I notify you?

Once baby is here within 2 hours please get placenta on ice in cooler/tub or in fridge and reach out to me.

What is the best way to reach you?

Text Hanna at 517-917-7246(she will come get it daytime hours typically 7 days a week!)For hospital births ideally someone will have to bring it down to her in lobby of hospital.

How do you encapsulate?

There are two ways for encapsulation: If done traditional Chinese method-Placenta is steamed with red chilis, lemon and ginger. Then it is dehydrated until done. Ground into powder and put into gel capsules.

If done raw method it is sliced thinly and put in a dehydrator. Raw is most common, still dehydrated just not steamed first! This generally gets the most amount of pills as well. Ground into powder and then put into capsules.

What type of capsules do you use?

I use regular gel capsules but can use vegan ones on request.

What size capsules do/can you use?

size 00 gel capsules( if different size of capsules or vegan capsules are needed please let me know before so I make sure I have in stock)

What do you use for sanitizing equipment?

All equipment that isn't disposable is cleaned and stored after each time using proper safety measures. Hanna holds a certificate in blood borne pathogens safety.

Anything I need to do if having a hospital birth?

Depending on where you deliver there may be a signed release/blood work that needs to be done(specifically at henry ford in Jackson) PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR PROVIDER AND SEE IF THEY HAVE ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED TO DO TO RELEASE PLACENTA.

Do I have to let my care provider know?

Yes you should always let your care provider know beforehand if you can that you're planning on keeping placenta. Often times you need to sing a release prior to delivery or after.

Do I need a cooler?

Yes please try to bring a medium size cooler for placenta to keep on ice until I can come to get it!

If you don't have a cooler, keeping it on ice in a bucket is acceptable or bring a few gallon zip lock bags to double bag it in.

Home births just pop it in a zip lock in the fridge!

What if they dont want to let me take my placenta home?

If they want to take placenta to pathology please ask if they can take a small piece of it and you keep the rest-please let me know if they do this. Once it goes to pathology you cannot encapsulate it or tincture it. I could still do a print if you wanted.

Reasons not to take placenta home?

HIV and placentas that have been left out for to long are the only reasons i wont encapsulate. We can still do a print if you want! Some reasons you may hear not to, GBS Postive, and meconium(baby poop) there are not reason why i would not still encapsulate-

PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU ARE RUNNING INTO ANY ISSUES KEEPING YOUR PLACENTA!

How do you make a tincture?

Placenta Tincture is made from a quarter size piece of the mother’s own raw placenta after birth, steeping in alcohol making a strong remedy over 6 weeks.

What are the benefits of tincture?

It is said that placenta tincture is used for emotional, mental and psychological instability and may also be very beneficial for treating PMS and menopause. You simply add a few drops of tincture to water as needed normally after you run out of placenta pills.

When do I get my tincture?

It will be shipped back to you in 6 weeks

How do you do placenta print?

placenta is printed/painted on, in any colors you request, on watercolor paper, if no color is requested then I'll choose something amazing! You always have the option to just use blood too.
